2024 Luck of the Draw: Ecosystem

Ecosystem – reflecting DiverseWorks’ commitment to our forthcoming Climate Action Plan and the exhibition and performance series, River on Fire, opening this fall. More than 200 works on paper, each one 7 x 9 inches, will be available for purchase at this year’s event. Participating artists include Trenton Doyle Hancock, Preetika Rajgariah, Kaneem Smith, James Surls, and Lillian Warren, to name just a few. All works will be available for the set price of $200.

TEXAS CREATIVES a group exhibition that will highlight the unique perspectives of the gallery’s Texas-based artists, many who are influenced by the state’s distinct regional identity in addition to its diverse cultural heritage and landscape.

The featured Texas-based gallery artists will include: Julie Brook Alexander, Lydia Bodnar-Balahutrak, Sandi Seltzer Bryant, Angel Castelán, Marcos Hernández Chávez, Sunni Forcier, Mayuko Ono Gray, Leamon Green, Mark Greenwalt, Clara Hoag, Ann Johnson, Ronald L. Jones, Robert Kinsell, Edward Lane McCartney, Lorena Morales, Richard Neidhardt, Kermit Oliver, Kingsley Onyeiwu, Angelica Raquel, John Mark Sager, Ward Sanders, Masaru Takiguchi, Prince Varughese Thomas, and Deasa Turner.

An exhibition that examines and celebrates the role of the artist as “rule breaker.” It pays homage to that tendency in artists to think outside the box and to envision the world differently. “Ban This Show” functions to support and encourage the artistic impulse towards change, divergence, rebelliousness, experimentation, and self-reflection.

Halloween Art and Nature Festival

This year's theme will be “Creepy Crawlers” inspired by the 1960’s activity game that taught children to cast plastic insects and other ‘creepy’ organisms out of molds.

This year Atelier de la Nature will host four Southern artists as they create bug and other creepy-crawler-themed sculptures from recycled metals using a portable casting furnace and blacksmithing forge installed onsite at the Atelier grounds.

In addition, there will be live insects, giant arachnids, amazing arthropods, pickled sea roaches, segmented bodies, exoskeleton suits of armor, antennae and much more!

Our 2024 festival mascot is “Franken-Mantis” by artist and biologist Cheyenne Eagles.

The festival will be on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10-4, with film screenings starting at 6, other nocturnal activities and camping after for those that want to.
