Public Extension:

Reflecting on the public artist experience.
February 2022

Having multiple public works can be overwhelming. When I'm not able to be in their presence, they exist in my mind as ongoing conversations. At times those conversations can take up such a large amount of mental space that I cannot do anything until I have revisited the site.

I stopped by [Declarations of Love] in Crestmont and A Cautionary Tale in Sunnyside today and performed some maintenance where needed. They, like the others, have been able to survive the sporadic, sometimes extreme weather conditions over several months.

I originally planned to remove these sculptures a few months ago, but have since decided to leave them in place. I cannot say for how long they will exist, only that I will maintain them until they cannot withstand the elements.
